Will PUBG remain forever banned in India?

Ever since the government took down Chinese apps, comprising the much beloved PUBG over security reasons, the multiplayer game's fans have been wondering if the biggest video game in India will ever make a comeback. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) had on September 2 banned 59 more apps including PUBG, in addition to 165 mobile applications banned on two occasions earlier. The ministry in a stern notice said that the said apps were banned in the view of the "emergent nature of threats" as they were engaged in activities which were "prejudicial" to sovereignty, defence and security of the country. GAME ON: Protect allies and find killers in whodunit game ‘Among Us’

Flying under the radar since 2018, the social-deduction party game "Among Us" has suddenly seen a surge of interest from video game streamers. In the months after its release, "Among Us" never had more than 50 simultaneous players. Thanks to a dedicated developer team pushing out updates, the game started to see serious traction recently, and in the past month, its peak concurrent users topped 1.5 million. That's a pretty amazing feat for a 2-year-old, extremely inexpensive game. If you've ever played party games such as Werewolf or Mafia (or sometimes called Vampire) with friends, then you have the gist of what "Among Us" is about. The game features a group of four to 10 players in a space-theme setting. Each game, one to three players are "Impostors" and the rest are "Crewmates." It's the Impostors' job to stealthily kill Crewmates, and the Crewmates' job to identify and eliminate the Imposters hiding among them.

Streamers are failing at ‘Fall Guys,’ and succeeding on Twitch

Betar, one of Twitch’s most popular streamers and a talented gamer, had suffered a dispiriting, weeks-long string of “Fall Guys” losses. (The game’s official Twitter account, which currently boasts over 1.5 million followers, had taken to taunting him for it). Now, he was inches from his first win. He maneuvered carefully from platform to platform, with his character, dressed as a hot dog, running, bouncing, diving and bobbing not-so-gracefully across the playing field. And on the virtual sidelines, over 335,000 had tuned in to watch. Then, the ground gave way under his opponent. “You said it couldn’t be done!” Betar screamed as his opponent fell into the slime. “There’s the king! Put my crown on!” This wasn’t just another moment for Betar, who already had millions of Twitch followers and been featured in a Super Bowl commercial before “Fall Guys” launched on Aug. 4. His “Fall Guys” victory was his most-watched stream ever. “He’s never seen such numbers,” StreamElements CEO Doron Nir

The Great SBMM Debate Infects The ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’ Alpha

Cold War ATVI The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha is drawing to an end today, and there has been one dominant point of contention among players and pros alike during the early test run here. It’s less about how the game plays with its new guns and skills and maps and such, but rather a familiar debate, Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) versus Connection-based Matchmaking (CBMM). The idea is that even for this early Alpha test, Call of Duty had turned on SBMM which resulted in a number of players, high profile pros especially, complaining about how matches felt. SBMM takes into account player skill and tries to match you with other players who are as good or as bad as you. This is supposed to result in more even games and less of one team crushing the other, or getting crushed. But critics of SBMM say that it makes for too many “sweaty” games when top tier players are matched only against others of similar sky-high skill. The counter to this is CBMM, which prioritizes connection.

Among Us PS4, Xbox One Port More Complicated Than You Think

Developer InnerSloth has explained why its popular online multiplayer game Among Us isn't on consoles like PlayStation 4 or Xbox One yet. The biggest hurdle in the studio's way is apparently player communication. According to studio programmer Forest Willard--who played Among us with a bunch of Twitch streamers earlier this week, including 5uppp--figuring out how to implement player communication in a game that's largely text-based chat might prove difficult when porting Among Us to consoles. "[A console port] is something we're starting to talk about," Willard said. "But we'd have to write a system for quick comms. It'd basically be for randoms, like Rocket League. I don't know if we'd be able to implement console voice chat or not. I know one of the first things we want to add is a friend's list-type account system because it's real hard to do anything without that s***." Among Us currently doesn't feature any sort of
